rockinrunner is correct. The only issues we've seen where registrations completely failed were due to incorrect urls. There are tons of changes from 2.6 to 2.7 and that includes some of the url structure. Manually created urls from 2.6 should NOT be used in 2.7. This has been discussed in other threads. As suggested here, check your urls.
Tracking down an issue that is sporadic is extremely difficult. Definite starting point should be to determine HOW the user accessed your registration. I clicked here, then I clicked X, then I clicked X... maybe you can track down and find an old URL in your system somewhere.
Also, yes, you MUST update the EventLink plugin to the 2.7.2 version. Module too. Old additions will not process links correctly. Same applies for profile plugins like the CB plugin and JomSocial plugins. If you have old versions of those, they would be creating old 2.6 urls to registration also.
It's still happening - I have Component, Modules and Plugins up to date - and no rogue links.. I will keep trying to pinpoint any pattern but there doesn't seem to be one.
The applicant gets the default Registration success screen and e-mail.... but Admin is sent nothing and in the back-end records the e-mail is captured but the event is totally blank.
I am still having to follow up with people and ask what they registered for and can they send me the details direct - That's crazy!
Want a laugh? The funny thing my short term solution now has to be to ensure every event has a custom e-mail and then make my default 'success' email say 'Sorry something went wrong! Please contact us direct!' but seriously...

Just to give this some more weight.... Was using DT for about 10 months handling all my registrations, payments, etc. wonderfully. Did the upgrade (several times and mort recently the 2.72. download for everything) and am having same registration problems. I can register for an event but the student is getting confirmation email with fields that are black, out of place and missing.
The confirmation email i received is usually just blank. i use only firefox and chrome latest versions and have never had any problem so i know its not the user end. in the back end where the replies to the registration were created, the field is now blank even though the student is getting some information. I guess maybe the fields are not matching up in the DB but have no idea where to even begin.

Just guessed..is it possible that the customer opens the registration page, then his session has expired and he completed the registration later (or maybe bookmarked the page to register later). Can be the effect similar with inserting direct links to the registration page?
We had this issue as well. The people using IE (any version) and Safari were the ones having the issue. FireFox, was no problem. For us it was not 1 in 15 registration, more like 5 of 15.

Thank you for starting this thread!
I have noticed this too and it doesn't seem to be related to links. When we first upgraded from 2.6 we got a couple empty (rather, incomplete) registrations: Some participant data and the event data were missing.
I was hanging in there and hadn't submitted a post yet, but after the latest upgrade to 2.7.2, it's still happening. Sometimes we get a complete duplicate registration and sometimes we get a registration with another incomplete registration.
I finally emailed someone who registered and mentioned we've been trying to pinpoint a minor bug in the new software. I asked if she registered for one or two events: the answer... she just registered for one event, but a separate, incomplete registration with it's own ID was created along with the correct, complete registration. I attached a screen shot of our records page.
I tried to replicate what might be causing this and tried a couple of dummy registrations with double clicking real fast, but couldn't make it happen. I'm wondering if it might be happening with some people whose computers take a little longer to confirm the transaction and they click again and this happens.Look at the time stamps in the pic. It's only minorly annoying and only happens with about one in forty registrations for us.
Thanks again for reporting this - I'm glad I could confirm and report this bug. I'm sure this will get worked out!
