With Open Source components, I expect there to be bugs. I also expect there to be a lack of good support and quick fixes. However, the moment you choose to sell a product...you open the floodgates. While researching the forums here (something I always do before a purchase), I\'ve seen numerous complaints about functions that are critical to functionality. Payment gateway issues, user registration, events displaying properly...etc. The replies in a great number of instances have been less than courteous...and most usually slightly less than helpful. The customer is always right...ALWAYS. It may appear in this fading republic that customer service has become a relic of the past...but I assure you, those companies with less than adequate and polite customer service are the first ones to feel the pinch when there\'s not quite so much money being tossed around.
I hate to rant and rave at you guys...because I\'d really love for this to be a viable product for the 200+ Joomla sites we currently manage and maintain...however, posts such as \"we\'re really busy and we have personal lives too\" etc...turn me right away. You\'re in business now...you have no personal life. And if you do, that\'s not the consumer\'s problem...they got problems of their own...deadlines, angry customers. The difference is...you get paid to put up with it. Hope to see some improvements in your product and your customer service very soon. Good Luck.
Just a quick update...after speaking to my client..they decided to take the plunge on this component. Well, it\'s not my money..so here we go...I\'ll post an update after install. I\'d love to be wrong about my initial impression.
What\'s to disagree with? I didn\'t make a blanket condemnation..merely an observation upon which I formulated an opinion about the \"potential\" lack of proper customer service. If you will reread my original comments you will see that I stated I hoped I was wrong and would update this thread after the purchase.
So...on to the update. I am happy to report that I was able to install and configure the DTdonate and DTregister components for my client with minimal effort. Since there was no need for technical support as of yet, I can\'t comment on the responsiveness and courtesy of the support staff. I would rather have a good working component than a good support team for a bad component anyday.
There are a couple of things I would like to see added to these components, such as greater control over layout and displays...but all in all...good components, great price.. I would definitely recommend to anyone who needs the functionality that they provide.
My client btw, is The American Red Cross...hence my apprehension of using an unknown component. Thus far, all is well. Gratz on a job well done.
Please accept my apologies. I\'ve been very impressed and pleased with DTH that I can\'t help but feel the responsibility to back them up. At first I thought you were taking a shot at their development and support until I re-read your post as you suggested (which I should\'ve done in the first place.
I am also glad everything worked out and I wish you success with your site.
