Julian - we have considered that, but the downside is competitors. DT Register is the clear leader for event registration... competitors are always playing catch up with us. They would like to see what we are working on too maybe we should set something up like that anyway.
The user registration will probably be available by the end of next week at this point.
well ... honestly I don´t like Uservoice: The double log-in, they charge a lot, the software can´t be installed on an own server. But there is no other software like that. So Uservoice should just have been a suggestion.
You are right about competitors, I have the same issues in my business. But I realized there are two strategies: Focussing my energy in keeping all developements secret, but the competitors see it anyway as soon as they are ready. Or focussing on developement ... in this case, the competitors are always just "running behind".
My experiance is: Competitors that are running behind will never catch up. And just don´t caring about "copiing competitors" saves a lot of energy. Customers will always, with every product, have the question about: Spenting more money for the original or less money for the copy". Why not taking it as the chinese do: Copying your features is a compliment, is a respect to you. They copy, what you did in original.
All in all ... it´s the most relaxed way. In my case: When someday a "good competitor" comes across, I will have a friendly competition. All "bad-mindet" ones never where able to get theire business running as good as mine. So I don´t care about them. They don´t have the energy to built theire own features? So how should they have the energy to catch up with good quality and a good product. They will be copies forever!
I'm guessing this functionality will create Joomla user account immediately after registering to the event? And send account details to user per Joomla's settings for new accounts?
We have a case where participants should have account created, but they should not have access until the event is over. Would it be possible to defer the account creation or activation until the event has ended? This should be automatic.
Maybe this functionality could help with another issue with the same case. We need to email participants who have not been active in any way after the initial event. In this case we should isolate participants who have not logged in/activated their account. Could this be done (all or by event)? We use CB, if that helps...
Two things here. First I agree with Julian...I am fond of saying that I dont have any competitors...yes we have other people in our business who are trying to take away business from us, but we need to focus on doing what we do best. As he said, they will know next week anyway, but what they wont know is what we do best, which is think better, and offer a more complete solution. The fellow down the street who rents canoes just like we do, has newer canoes, etc...but he is playing catchup. We are the best, and he will hopefully never catch up because we just do it better. You are the same.
Now on the real subject of this thing...Is there any sense in setting up a dedicated section to this...since I think we want to do almost the exact opposite as jnyman, since I think we want them to have access immediately...since in our case, they pay a deposit, and we want them to pay the balance before the event. I am sure there are some other things that we will encounter that I am not yet seeing...Thats's why you are infront since you can see further down the road.
jnyman - user creation will be done at event registration... not tied to the ending of any particular event. We do not intend on making the user creation any more complex.
