TOPIC: Outlook integration with .ICS file attachment?

I have a client I purchased DTR for (Intranet) and they really want Outlook integration and about the only way I can see to provide that feature is to attach an .ICS file to the registration email or in JEvents.

Any chance of that happening in a future version? I am close to coding this solution up myself since they are willing to pay for the feature!

Are you talking about having the event add to the Outlook calendar? We didn't have any plans for that, but it's not a bad idea If you need it quickly, you may want to dive into yourself. If it's not a big rush, shoot us an email and we can discuss it more possibly.

This client is definitely anxious to get it. There's only about a 100 lines of code to do this. This feature would make DTR truly company Intranet ready.

The reason for this approach is that it's about the only way to integrate Outlook with Joomla that I can think of. Receive an email with an embedded .ICS file, click it and let Outlook add it to the calendar. This same approach will work with Apple Mail and Thunderbird since they both support .ICS files.

This has been requested by one of my clients also. They sent me a link to CVENT and EventBrite which are services that handle event registrations etc.. --non Joomla however. They have the ability to add the event to Outlook etc.. There does not appear to be a Joomla solution to this at the moment. I think this is probably something that needs to be implemented for Jevents and then DTRegister could be able to offer it. In any case I am interested in any workarounds (including manually generating the ICS or vcal file and posting it in the event decsription as a download)

This was actually less that a 100 lines of code and I implemented it in JEvents last night/this am. I'm going to see the client and have them do some testing.

It would only take a few more lines to add this to an email in DTR.

Once I'm done with the client.. Time for a nap...

Just as an FYI, I did get this coded up and integrated with JEvents so the client can now add events to Outlook.
