TOPIC: Can I Safely Disable "Allow User Registration"?

Hello,

I noticed I am getting a few spam registrations and I could not figure out at first how? Then I realized it is because under the Joomla User Manager options there is an option to "Allow User Registration".

Having this enabled creates a link to a basic joomla user registration page that bypasses the registration process through DT Register. it also creates links on my login module and login page that says "Create An Account". This link goes to the base joomla registration page and where spam registrations are creeping in.

I did activate captcha on this page to help fight the spam. But ultimately it would be better if I had the ability to disable the "Allow User Registration" which would remove the rouge registration page and the "Create An Account" links.

My question is will disabling "Allow User Registration" under the joomla user manager options (See Screenshot) stop the DT Register component from creating new joomla accounts when a user fills out an event registration form?

For the DT Register auto user creation to work, that parameter must be on, yes.

Okay thank you, so will having the captcha setting enabled for the base joomla registration effect DT Register registrations? Because having this on will at least help fight the spam I am currently getting.

Also, how can I prevent users from finding their way to the base joomla registration page then?

I know another component I used in the past called RS Membership had a feature that would force any traffic to the base joomla user registration page to the components registration page.

Does DT Register have a similar feature? Or is there a possible hack/solution for redirecting traffic from the joomla registration page to dt registers registration pages?

Or do you have any other suggestions to help fight SPAM due to this situation?

I believe there are plugins to redirect user profile registration attempts. You'll just have to dig through the JED a bit for that. Using captcha won't affect DT Register at all.
