We have an event that uses the Waiting list feature, it's our first time using it. We've encountered an issue.

When an attendee was removed the next person added was not the next person on the list, there were 5 others ahead.

How did she get to book the place ahead of the others?

The waiting list process is not automated... so when a spot opens, no one automatically fills it. People on the waiting list are already associated with that event, but with a status of "Waiting". You can manually change their status to "Pending"... and if you have enabled it in configuration... a status change email will be sent to the user to notify them. You could give details for making payment if that is applicable.

With this not being automated, someone else CAN come in and take that open spot, yes.

Thanks, so the chances are that the user went in and say that the space was available and took it.

How would they see that?

Yes someone just went and took the open spot. The only way they would've known is to have went to your site and attempted registration... or if your event list is set to show how many spaces are available, that would of course tell them.

Thanks.

So best practice would be to let the next person on the waiting list know that a space is available at the time of removing another.

Understood, thanks again.

Check out the waiting list enhancements for DT Register 3.1.12. No one can steal that newly opened spot now after a cancellation. See the details in the 3.1.12 announcement.
