I've been having so many problems with DT Register related to missing records and PayPal URL errors, that I decided that it would probably be faster to install a fresh copy of Joomla and start from scratch than try to spend days (into weeks) attempting to figure out what went wrong where.

Does anyone know of a way to back up and restore DTR from an existing site to a new fresh install? My thinking was:

- Export all the _DTRegister tables
- Install DTR in a new Joomla ernvironment
- Import the DTR tables to the new install
- Use Akeeba to migrate the site to the production server once tested

Your thoughts?

As stated in the package readme file in instructions for migrating your site... you would:

- export _dtregister tables
- import _dtregister tables into new site database
- install DT Register on new site

You must not install DT Reg on the new site until data is imported first.

Normally I just use Akeeba to move sites which is why I didn't think to look at the .readme file.

If memory serves, I think I did restore the tables first, then installed DTR later. It seems everything is alright - records are being created and the component is working as though nothing went wrong.

What might be the symptoms to look for if my recollection is incorrect and I installed the component first and then restored the tables?

The issue would be dependent on how you exported and imported. If you have your import drop all tables as it imports, then you're fine. The issue would be if you were to try and import the data, combining it with any data there from a fresh install. There would be potential entries that would get imported due to conflicting IDs and such.

This is why we say to get data there before installing... so you don't have two sets of data potentially fighting with each other. :)

Dodged a bullet. Definitely did use the SQL drop command for this and other tables (VirueMart, UserID, Categories, etc.) before importing.

Thanks!
