I want to sell seating times. Example: 9am, 9:30am, 10am, 10:30am for a easter brunch. I know how to set Selection Limits for custom fields, but what i want to do is only allow now more than 40 people per seating times.

So for the 9am time, I want to limit it to 30 people, so if one person registered 5 people and another person registered 20, then the total would be 25 people. Which is under the threshhold.

But if one group registered 20 and another group registered 20, it would not allow them to register for the 9am slot since the limit is 30.

Any ideas how I can accomplish this?

Thanks

Selection limits is exactly how you would accomplish this. For a group registration, you'd put the time selection assigned to each member in a group so as each member page chooses the time selection, it counts towards that limit you have set.

If you're trying to do a time selection as a whole for the group, like on the billing page, that will not work with the selection limit.

From memory.... so you need to test it...

The way I would do this is create a load of recurring events.

if my memory serves - these events will all be an option on your article page in a drop down list via the dt register plugin.

Not sure if that fits in with your design - but it is a neater solution if you ask me.

Yes, if you assign a bunch of events to the same Details Article, then the dropdown will show from the EventLink plugin to give a selection of what to register for. If that's how you offer the different times, then no selection limits are needed as you'd just work off of the event capacity setting of each event.
