Is there a way to use the user group to define membership? I didn't see a way to configure who is a member vs non-member using Joomla Groups.

That limits the flexibility for those of us with membership systems who leave people in a registered status but who are treated as Non-members for some things like events because their membership dues are not up to date.

Maybe I'm missing how to do that...

So I assume you are using an older version.
