Is it possible to force group registrants to be registered? Or does there need only be one member who purchases on behalf of the whole group?

We need all of our purchasers to be registered but our members have asked to simply the registration process by allowing one person to purchase on behalf of a family for instance. We would still require that each of the family members be registered at our site otherwise they can not attend our events.

Hello. In a group registration, the status of group members is not checked. If you require a site user login to register, then whichever user is logged in can access the group registration... then enter whatever member data for each person. The record and billing/main contact for the group will be the registered, logged in site user. You can set your events to require login if needed. Thanks!

It is the validation process that I was interested in. They way I understand it that only 1 member need be registered for a group. I was asking if it is possible to ENSURE that all member data is verifed or validated so that only registered members attend our events. We don't want to leave it up to the group registrar as you are suggesting.

Group members are NOT associated with site users... no check is involved for that... just the main contact. I don't know of any joomla event solution that does what you are describing actually.
