TOPIC: [SOLVED] 2.7 installation results in blank components screen

Hi all,

Like many (most?) of you I've been waiting for this upgrade awhile. Just got a chance to download/install on a new staging site I set up. Here's what happens:

Uninstall 2.6.8c
Install 2.6.9c from package (originally misread the 2.6.9 upgrade was for people upgrading from older versions)
2.6.9c upgrade worked fine. Everything's looking good. Newer version shows up on the Component Install/Uninstall screen.
Uninstall 2.6.9c
Install 2.7.0 (com_dtregister2_7_0_J15.zip)
After a little bit (normal file upload/process time), the page stays blank and no more activity happens.

I navigate back to my backend admin page. I go back to Components and see the DTRegister appears installed, but has no information about version/date/author.

I check to see if I can pull up anything on the (stalled?) installation. The new mouseover options appear (Pay Options, Fields, Permissions, etc) but when I attempt to go to any of them I get a blank page.

I attempt to uninstall because things don't show up. Uninstalling (sort of) fails saying:

JInstaller::install: ERRORXMLSETUP
If this Extension has created tables or installed additional files, they must be removed manually.

*but* DTRegister doesn't show up anymore in my component list. (As if it actually uninstalled)

I reinstall 2.6.9c and get a big ol' error:
JInstaller::install: There is already a folder called '/var/www/html/whohuhwhat.org/s4s/language/en-GB/en-GB.com_dtregister.ini'. Please initially check whether:
• the Extension is already installed
• the file names in the XML file are spelled correctly
• there are no XML files listed inside the extension.xml file
• all of the files (not including XML files) are correctly listed in the extension.xml file and there are no duplicate entries
• there is an empty folder listed from a previous installation attempt

I check my installation and everything's there like it should be. I can pull up old events/records.

If I try to repeat the installation, I get the same errors.

Anyone else get this (and get past it)? Reckon if someone here has run into it and shares, it'll save dthadmin some time. If not, I'll put in a ticket...

Ok, no replies so I'll make a ticket. When it gets resolved, I'll post in here in case anyone else hits the same situation.

As a troubleshooting measure, I changed the permissions on all of my files to world-writeable (chmod -R 777) and it made no difference.

One thing I would say is

if you have problems and try again

I would not uninstall 2.7 and try and earlier version
(I think it has messed/updated with a new database structure by this point which uninstalling wouldn't change and possibly some new file structures too)

but rather
restore the backup of files and database you took before you started...


then go again

p.s. I believe that you don't need to go to 2.6.9 from 2.6.8
as 2.7 will install on top of 2.6.8

Issues soccerbum was having were not totally "bugs", but regardless, are resolved as we have discussed in a ticket.

What neltek says here is good advice though... if you do have an older 2.7 install with issues... instead of installing a newer one over top, uninstall and completely remove all related database tables. Restore your 2.6.8 or 2.6.9 backup. Then install the updated 2.7.0 package. The latest package should have no install issues.
