Can we configure DT Register to Automatically Return From PayPal when a user pays for an event?

Our users are going to PayPal, paying successfully for the event and then closing their browser session.

If they do not click the link to return back to the site, the registration record is not written to DT Register.

Can this be changed with a config setting?

No, setting PayPal to auto return will break the IPN process and the record will not be created.

However, even if the user closes the browser or just goes to a different site, the record will still be created IF you have everything configured correctly. That is what IPN is for. IPN must be enalbed, sending of IPN messages must be enabled (for personal PayPal accounts), auto-return must be off, and permissions must be correct on your site (/components and /components/com_dtregister must be 755, files inside 644).

Also, make sure you have the latest version of DT Register in place.

Thanks - can you offer any more suggestions?

We have made sure:

(1) IPN is turned ON
(2) Message Delivery is enabled
(3) Notification URL is correct
(4) Auto Return is set to off
(5) Permissions on folders (/components AND /components/com_dtregister) are correct
(5) Permissions on files within the /components/com_dtregister folder are correct

Would the ipn_log.txt file offer any clues?

It may just be a coincidence, but things started acting funny around the time we upgraded to 2.6.7c

It is not consistent, sometimes we get a registration record and sometimes we don't.

Well, if you are still using 2.6.7, that may be your problem. Make sure you are using the latest build, which is 2.6.8e. There was a PayPal IPN issue that affected a small number of users based on a server configuration... that issue was fixed, but you may not have that fix. Update and see.

We did the Upgrade to com_dtregister2_6_8e_J15 and are still not working.

We have IPN set to On, we have the proper URL keyed in, and Auto-Return is set to OFF. (I talked to a PayPal person just to make sure the config screens were not lying to me)

When we pay for an event - BUT stay on the PayPal site, no record is written to DT Register.

The record is only written to DT Register when we click the Return to .. Site button.

Also, it does not write to ipn_log.txt (which is writeable). We even renamed that file to see if it would create a new one.

Any more ideas?

mholstein's problem ended up being tied to RS Firewall... it was restricting PayPal IPN messages from getting through to the site.
