I'm updating to 2.6.8 today and a question crossed my my mind:
So many other components now allow for incremental/overwrite updating - no need to uninstall first.
Is there is a reason why dtregister still uses the old "uninstall previous/install new" method?

There is no problem with the current upgrade method. When you uninstall the old version, only files are replaced. All data is left in the database, then the reinstall updates as needed. If anything else is needed to be done, the readme file would tell you. Usually a simple uninstall and reinstall is all that is needed. We're constantly improving DT Reg so at a point where we feel that this needs reworked, we will do so. Maybe that type of structure will get worked into the 2.7 series.

I just need to have more info about upgrade method..

So for install a new version we need to first uninstall the old one from backend...right? Now if I delete the contain of DTregister related stuff directly trough FTP or SSH is also possible?

My goal would be to be able to uninstall and reinstall everything without being obligate to login inside backend...

Many thank

dotcom - the reason for the uninstall and reinstall is because any database changes (there's always something...) will be done for you. If you just manually replace the files via FTP, then you will NOT have properly upgraded as the database would be unchanged. It is much faster and dependable to do an upgrade from the joomla admin.

Ok is what I thinking about re-install. So If I understand well we can uninstall all files by SSH/FTP (because database will not be touched) but we must install from Joomla backend... It is correct ?

I ask that because I plan to install dtregister on several site (and so I plan to take your dev licence). I have a component who permit me to remotely install stuff but not to uninstall.. Using this component is the same then if I install something from backend...

thank

Not exactly sure how it will work with this other component you are using. If you remove the files via FTP, there is still an entry in the jos_components database table showing that the component is installed. That could be a problem when you try to reinstall. Not sure with that other component.
