I have the same problem - I have created a menu item for a "hidden" menu, and still no luck - kept getting a 500 - View not found error.
I was able to get it to work by changing the menu from category - blog ( I wanted to keep it simple and just use this to hold all of my webinars) to Article layout to display the single article. Now it behaves as it should - just a pain to have to create a new menu item for each webinar we do.
ecarne submitted a ticket so we could see what was going on. He wasn't quite following the instructions from this forum post. He entered the ARTICLE ID into the event setup. The point of creating the menu item is to generate an ITEM ID that is associated with the article. Each menu item has an ID which is called the Item ID. Menu Item IDs are very important, especially when SEF is in place.
I replaced the article ID with the menu Item ID in the event setup parameter for the ItemID Override and now the Details button works just fine. His menu item is a blog/category menu item for the category that contains his event article.
I post his scenario as an example of this fact... set it up correctly and it WILL work
For clarification, do I understand you must have an individual article linked via an article layout menu item (as opposed to a section blog layout menu item for example) in order for the details page to function correctly?
I got it working when I linked to the article with a menu article layout but never could get it to work until I did.
If that's right, it would make sense to perhaps change the information popup to make the point this works only with a direct article link set in some menu. Confusing to us who seemingly follow usually clear explanations yet have problems....
No, a menu item for each article is not needed. The instructions given here say to create a CATEGORY/Blog menu item. Then take that Itemid and enter in the Itemid override parameter for the event.
