TOPIC: Event List default and archiving

When listing Events in the backend the list is way to long as the list option is "All Events" by default. This brings two questions:
a) is there a way to set the default to "Published" so only upcoming / active events are seen
b) any recommendations as to archiving of old records - the web site is only in production for 3 months now and this is going to become a nightmare soon - there are multiple courses running per week every week.
