Is private SSL and dedicated IP address required for credit card payments with DT Register, or can I use my host's shared SSL? What are the disadvantages of using shared SSL? Are there any security issues or other considerations?

Thank you very much in advance for any input and suggestions!

If you are using PayPal for payments, you do not need your own SSL. If you are using Authorize.net, you should have your own SSL certificate that is registered to your domain name. Yes, that would take a dedicated IP address. You can not use a shared SSL from your host. A shared SSL is a secure directory on the server that is useable by all users on that server. You have to load data into that directory to be secure... your joomla site is not in that location, so DT Register can't used that obvoiusly. The proper way to process secure transactions is having your own SSL that is dedicated to your domain. Your merchant account provider will likely require it anyway.
