TOPIC: Complete registration without CAPTCHA and required fields

My site keeps getting 'hacked' where fake registrations are being filled out and they are somehow not completing all of the required fields and not completing the CAPTCHA, and registering for 'free'.

i have adjusted the field requirements so they are 'forced' to select a field that adds a payment amount to the registration, I was hoping that would 'force' them to go to paypal in order to complete the registration, but they are still getting through.

We've been having the same problem since 2.7.9. It seems that setting fields to required have no effect whatsoever.
