I'd like to enable caching on a site that has DT Register, but I'm concerned that Register may run into problems. Anybody have any experience along those lines?

Some sites have used it okay... some not. The more aggressive cache systems like Gantry cache are the ones that tend to be more troublesome. Core Joomla cache should be okay. I'd say enable it and do some test runs to make sure all is still okay.

I've run into problems with Joomla Core Cache in joomla 1.7.3 and DTRegister.
When turned on paid events spontaneously are treated as free ..

I submitted a ticket.

Then keep the core cache disabled. It's not a big deal at all to not use the cache. When you have more complex structures in place, cache is just an added source of potential problems.
