Is there a way to upgrade DT Register without losing modules?

Every time I upgrade it tells me to uninstall the modules and reinstall with latest versions.
This means they dissappear and need setting up fresh.

I have a complex site where the modules are set with specific pages to show on and various positions. So this is a bit of a painful process and often puts me off doing the upgrades immediately...

I thought I read there was a way developers can enable upgrades to overwrite old modules and components without the need to uninstall first?

cheers

Ian

For your modules/plugins, you don't HAVE to uninstall. For those more advanced users, you can just go via FTP to the location of the module/plugin files and replace the files with the updated files. No reinstall is actually needed.

This is NOT the case for the component!! You should always do an official reinstall of the component as database changes are usually involved so a simple file swap will leave you with issues.

File swap on modules is fine though :)
