TOPIC: Member validation

Hello. I will be having members and non-members pating for events, with members receiving a discount. Does DT Register offer a way to validate who a member is and who isnt based on details in a database? I realize I can create a field for the member to enter a member number which they are assigned when they become a member - however I would like to know how we can use this number within the registration process to validate that it is an accurate number assigned to the individual registering as a member. I hope that makes sense...
