Well, the feature you are quoting and the title of your post are different.

1) You can create an event that has no registration by setting the "Registration Open Date" to any date that is AFTER the event is over. The event will be listed but not have active registration.

2) Whether it has registration activated or not, the event will be included in both the list view and calendar view. The only way to alter this is to setup menu links (for list or calendar) that only show events of a specified category.
