When I try using the tag {dtregister}event_id{/dtregister} and insert it into my details page it creates a "view all events button" when I'm trying to create the register now button? What am I doing wrong?

If you don't want a View All Events button, you can disable that in the EventLink Plugin parameters. The Register button will show if registration for that event is active (based on dates, reg open date, cut-off date, etc). Also, when you assign an article to an event, the Register button will automatically show at the bottom of the article. You don't have to add in the code. You only need to insert the code IF you want to position the button in some other specific location in the article.

Thats what I was thinking but I don't get a register button at the bottom of any of the pages that I have selected to be the details page and I do have the show details link enabled.

Then either you don't have the most updated version of the plugin... or your event is not active for registration. If you can't sort it out, submit a ticket so we can check your setup.
