Just tried the RokCandy plugin and it worked without problem when placing it in the "Message and/or Instructions to display above the registration form for this event:" area.

You could also probably just customize the event listing page code so that instead of displaying the "Short description of the event to be displayed on the event list page: ", it creates it as a pop-up link or as a Show/Hide expandable text link. The database field is a text field so the user can enter as much information as they want into that field.

I use the Article Anywhere plugin a lot:

Create an article describing the event in detail as you like.
Then embed the article inside the DTR description
The only issue is that you could end up with circular links / loops if you have the dtr Register Now buttons inside the article, but worth trying.

This would allow you to update the content of the event on a regular basis and always have it show up correctly in the DTR description.

I have tested this and it does not appear that DTR loads plugins when displaying its listings.
Not sure how to proceed without some help from developer.
