While attempting to instal DT Regsiter I had a site issue (unrelated to DT Register) and I had to restore the site from a backup from the ISP. It appears that the backup was taken while I was uninstalling DT Register so I do not have any DT Register components listed in the Joomla Backend. Everything looks good.

However; when I attempt to install the com_dtregister2_7_3a_J15 zip file I get the following errors:
Component Install: Another Component is already using directory: ".../public_html/backup/components/com_dtregister"
Component Install: Another Component is already using directory: "../public_html/backup/administrator/components/com_dtregister"

When I browse those locations they are filled with files and folders that the backend is not recognizing. Since I "uninstalled" previously is it ok to delete these files? and reinstall?

How should I proceed?

Seems the DT Register files are still in the directories so it will certainly not allow you to install with those there. Manually remove these folders:
/components/com_dtregister
/administrator/components/com_dtregister

Manually remove any DT Register language files like these:
/language/en-GB/en-GB.com_dtregister.ini
/administrator/language/en-GB/en-GB.com_dtregister.ini

Then you should be free to reinstall.
