Hi everyone, my clients already have a significant investment in an external shopping cart system, and they do not plan to use the payment gateway within DT Register (PCI DSS issues, etc). Can someone explain at a high level the steps I would use to connect from a completed registration in DT register to jump to the cart where payment is made?
Both carts (Pinnacle and 1ShoppingCart) use a URL to take users into the cart with their selected product, so at the end of registration, I need to present to the user this URL, whether it's tied to a Buy button or not. I'm still setting everything up, so I haven't even gotten as far as trying a test registration, but I have to get this up and running in a hurry, and I'd appreciate some help.
I suspect this involves the use of the Pay Later option, but I did NOT find ANY documentation on how one might use an external shopping cart. Can someone help this veteran web designer who is new to DT Register and Joomla?
Hello. There is no documentation for using an external shopping cart because no support for that is included in DT Register. You'd need more than just a url to get to the cart. You'd have to have a method of returning to notify DT Register that the payment was made... similar to the PayPal IPN system.
You're on your own for this extensive of a customization unless you pay us and do a custom project. If you'd like to discuss that further, send an email with full details and we'll get back to you. Thanks.
Well this is disappointing, to say the least. There are so many things to recommend DT Register, and now I must disappoint my client? I don't think so.
What if the trip to the external cart was a one-way trip: simply moving from a completed registration to payment? How would that be accomplished? Would it be the same as for a "free" event where DT Register is not tracking any money?
Really, you should have checked on this prior to telling your client that you could do it. Just a suggestion for the next project
Anyway, you can put a link on the thank you message (on screen) after a registration is completed (probably using Pay Later). The user could click the link to go make payment at the shopping cart... but that wouldn't populate any calculated price. Not sure if this would work for you or not. If not, some customization is going to be needed.
I'll try using the button on the Pay Later Thank You message -- it's pretty much what we do now for similar items in the cart. And as for researching DT Register, I did before telling my client to use it. My disappointment is that you don't even address the use of an external cart.
I realize you've spent years developing this cart functionality, but you should also be aware that there are literally thousands of Internet Marketers who would be interested in your product simply for its registration management IF you developed the integration between Pinnacle Cart and 1ShoppingCart the way you have with PayPal's IPN. The APIs exist and the dollars are waiting for you. Check it out!
