Hi! I am also curious if this is possible. :D

I only have two payment methods: Paypal and Pay Later. I wanted to be able to add a 3% fee to the total cost for those paying with PayPal. In looking at the backend, I'm guessing there's no way to do this; however, if not, would it be possible for me to add/hack the PayPal file to automatically add this amount to the total? If so, would you be able to let me know which file(s) I would need to alter, and possibly what part of the code? I would just then note on the paypal option that this would be an additional 3%.

Thank you sooo much for your help!

There is no way built in for this... mostly because it goes against PayPal's user agreement. You are not supposed to add fees to a PayPal payment that are different than another payment option for the same thing.

I know there are users that do this though. It is generally done through a custom fee field. You can have a required selection field where you ask the user if they will be paying online or offline... then add the fee to the appropriate option. Label the field and use whatever text or description that makes sense for you... but slide your fee in through a field. That's the only real way to do it.

The correct way to do it is to provide a "cash discount". It is against terms to charge an extra fee for using paypal or if using authorize.net, to charge and extra fee for using visa/mastercard. It is not against terms though to offer a cash discount. While it makes little sense since it accomplishes the same thing, the terminology is important to keep you within terms of your service providers.

What you really need to do is to include the additional fee for paypal in your regular price and then have a custom fee field for Pay Offline that is a negative fee so it subtracts the cash discount.
