I have tried the demo, and this looks exactly like what my client needs - however, I have identified an issue. Using a discount code for students, and custom fee field to add taxes as a percentage, the percentage amount is always calculated on the base total rather than the discounted total.

For instance, the fee is $500, and there is a student discount code for $100 off for a total of $400. The custom fee is set to Total Percentage of 10%, and when going through the checkout, the additional fee is $50 even if the the discount code has been entered and calculated. The results are the same regardless of the Fee Type setting. The percentage is calculated correctly if there is a discount in place using another custom fee field, but this is not an option as we have to show the tax amount and all fee based custom fields seem to be lumped together - I would be altering the language file to change the wording from Additional Fees to Taxes or some such thing.

Is this a bug? Is there a way around this?

Thanks.

Hello. The discount code is applied AFTER everything else. However, we are releasing an update within a couple of days that has a new tax feature built in so you won't need to use a custom field for it. Stay tuned... version 2.6.5 just about ready. Thanks.

I had a look a the 2.6.5 demo, and it's great that there is now a tax feature. The problem is that there is only one tax. Here in Canada, the tax rate varies from province to province.

Ideally it could be set up with radio buttons..

Such as
- Provinces with a 5% rate
- Provinces with a 13% rate
- Provinces with a 15% rate
- Out of country. 0% rate

the user chooses the correct rate, and that percentage is added.

If that is not a possibility, if PayPal is set up to add taxes, will DT Register accept the amount paid being bigger than the total sent by the program?

It is difficult to build things in a way that works perfectly for everyone :) Anyone that has ever suggested a tax feature has never said they would need multiple tax levels. Guess we'll see feedback with the new feature and modify as needed.

Regarding PayPal, not sure if that can cover your tax needs or not. We've never tested that.

Thanks. I do understand that taxes are one of the most convoluted things to program for. I have asked my client to get a clarification from his accountant of how he is supposed to be charging taxes for his events.

I could sure use an answer or scenario for this asap...

Anyone able to provide how they've configured taxes for events in Canada?

I would think we need to:
1. charge the correct tax based upon the purchasors billing address
- multiple tax scenarios, including tax upon tax for Quebec
2. Ensure they receive communication of the correct tax paid with a copy of the GST # on the invoice
3. ensure the correct tax amount is recorded in dtregister as tax collected for the event.

Would greatly appreciate it!
