I'll try to be short. I'm a long time user of DT Register... I've worked through many issues and now an owner change.
I'm here to tell you that I'm glad I stuck with it, because it's still the best on the market... for now.

My problem is this.

I have many times an event where I use a custom field to vary the price and or select a "session" for an event.
This allows me to limit the number of registrations per session etc.

The problem occurs when this happens.

Event A has 3 possible choices. Morning Session - Afternoon Session - Both.
So, Event A has let's say 10 places. So I enter selection limits for the morning and afternoon options and then what do I do for the third option.

What ends up happening is that I might have say 8 people book for the morning, 6 for the afternoon and 5 for the full day... now I have 13 in the morning and 11 in the afternoon... but only room for 10 people.

I hope the above makes sense... the reason we do this is to offer people a discount for booking both sessions.. hence we can with custom fields.

Another idea would be to create two events and allow a discount on Event B is Event A is added to the cart first.

So... my question is... can I do the above using some slight of hand with custom fields or can this be a feature request.

Again, thank you for your time and consideration.

Hi Norm.

It's the new owner here. First thank you for the inquiry. The right way to do what you want is to have a process that properly allocates available space for both sessions. Any attempts to "work around" it will have holes.

We can propose what effort and cost would be involved to do this. I do have some questions though. In your scenario, how would you want to handle a situation where someone is registering for both events but the afternoon event or the morning event has hit full capacity? Would you want to wait list the event that is full or wait list both events and try to fill the event that still has capacity? In these situations would you need a way to manage filling an event if someone cancels (such as prioritize people who have registered for both events over those who have registered for a single event). Let me know if those question need clarification. If you are interested in us doing the custom work we would be happy to put a proposal together if you want to submit that as a customization request in our ticketing system.

Best Regards,
Rich

Rich,
sincerely I can't understand what' s going on here...

* I just posted a thread questioning if Nathan is back as I saw some new posts from him...

Then I found this thread, asking for a new functionality and you answering with this style:

That you are the new owner and that you are ready to accept to work by payment on creating new custom work for the client.
Same time there are so many bugs on the extension and many disappointed customers waiting for a reply to the issues your recent releases have caused, for weeks and you don't even bother to reply... but suddenly someone asks a for a new feature and you declare ready to undertake some custom work (by payment of course...)

(WTF ???)

*and just now, I remembered a past forum post or ticket (not sure) I did about some functionality that I believe it should exist in DT reg... and then you also proposed me to request for a quote or pay extra to have this feature...

My tickets are waiting unanswered for weeks... In previous tickets, you were replying after I have reported back that my issue are resolved.
I feel that the only way to get someone an answer from you, is either if he says that he has resolved the issues or if he is asking for something new, which you are willing to offer it by paying extra for custom work...

Please, be clear and let us know, of what we should expect for the future ? (answer also my other post about Nathan).
Are you willing to produce a bug-free stable software and offer a responsive support or not ? Please one statement clear and sincere ...

Very happy to discuss custom work. We do have our own developer too however I've deliberately not used him on your product in the past, so yes.
To be honest we've not wanted to delve into "DT code" before as it seems to be a little unruly. So yes we'd be happy to discuss custom work

Personally I don't normally use the waiting list, so what I'd prefer is just a "greyed out" option on the field.

My proposal would be that the event had a maximum limit and each field had a link of sorts between the 3 (or more) possible options.
So... if someone chooses option 3, then option 1 and 2 are reduced by this amount also.

Hope I'm making sense.

BTW, I just performed an upgrade and as I've discovered before this broke some of my template overrides. It's very frustrating... so I appreciate your assistance.

Hi Norm.

Looks like we have posts flying by each other. When I sent the first response it was not meant to offend so I apologize if it did. I was responding to the part of your message where you mentioned product problems and a new owner and the implication that I read is that a new owner is a problem. I think it is quite the contrary. We can look through forum posts for many years and see the thousands of posts about wanting bug free software. It's not a new thing. My reason for letting you know that the new owner is on the other end of the post was to let you know you are talking directly to the new owner and I am very open to doing what is needed to make things better for everyone. I do want to set a realistic expectation. No product is bug free. However, unlike the past including before and after the ownership change, more resources are being put towards being responsive to fixing those issues.

Before discussing any custom work I want to help you with the issues you mentioned occurred during the upgrade. Do you have a ticket number that I can look up so we can sort out those issues?

Rich
