We use it for our sailing club and it is used extensively to collect details and money.
I'd agree with the other comments,
1) It is a very capable product
2) Don't make it too complex
3) Every update throws up problems, so I'd advise against applying updates when you have live events.
3) The support has dwindled to non existent over the last year. A real shame because it used to be very good, but now fundamental flaws go unanswered (or mis-answered) for weeks.

We use DT Register for our online business for multiple functions and it more than adequately gets the job done! I actually just ran into a support need this last week and received solid help and a fix to my issue so no complaints there for me. Thanks DTH!
I guess it depends on your situation, your setup of Joomla and how you have DT configured and events setup. Apparently we have had nothing but bad luck in all regards.
Currently I'm running Joomla 3.0.2 with DT Reg 3.0.0. I was able to download the lastest version prior to our subscription expiring.
Problems that I have experienced so far:
1. Categories do not function correctly. You can not create sub-categories. Any category created gets created as a "Root". The "List Events By Category" menu option does not let you select an actual category, this doesn't function correctly. I had to build separate articles and use the event link plug-in to accomplish what I wanted to do.
2. Pagination on the event locations section of the backend does not work. I can not view event locations that I created that are on the next page.
3. Field Ordering does not function correctly. I can move fields around, but moving a field, in our case, from the second to the first page causes random reordering of all fields. I had to go directly into the DB using phpMyAdmin and change the values of the "Ordering" column to fix what was messed up.
4. Today I discovered that I can not send out a confirmation email and include the date that they registered. [DATE_REGISTERED] yields "m,d,Y" and not the actual date registered.
All of these features worked in previous versions of DT. My biggest problem with this product is the development cycle. I can not understand how new versions released can be called "Stable". I feel like I'm paying money to be a beta tester. I know that there are others that have stated similar feelings on this forum.
I'm glad there are people out there that have had good luck with this product. It is the best piece of Joomla software out there for doing any kind of event registration. When there aren't problems. I however can not recommend DT Register to anyone. I feel that it's just too unstable. I think that the DT developers need to reconsider how they develop this Joomla component. Have two versions: your "stable" version that has been tested and you know there are no problems with and a "beta" release that people can use to help you flush out bugs.
I would like to help you. Your subscription expired a month ago so you have to be using an older version of DT Register for Joomla 3.0. There are known Joomla 3.0 bugs we documented that are outside of our software just as an FYI. If there are bugs in DT Register we are happy to take care of them.

I'm currently using the Joomla 2.5 version, and it works fine at the moment. I have been trying to install the Joomla 3.0 version but I needed to correct the installation files myself.
My biggest issue is the lack of support and information.
I have a ticket open that haven't been answered since 01/15/2013. It's regarding the installation issue (it is not related to Joomla 3.0 as DTH says, but an error in an SQL-statement in the installation files of DT register).
Another issue is that new releases are poorly tested. I agree with other posts in feeling like a beta tester at every upgrade.
