Since our webhoster 1&1 will stop support for php 5.2.17 April 1st next year and will offer only php >5.4 on their servers, I enabled 5.4.9 in our .htaccess file to test our homepages.
After doing this, I coudn't upload event pictures and location pictures in DT-Register any more. Also, event pictures were not shown any mory on the „List of Events“ page in DT-Register. Picture upload with other components as Joomgallery works in php 5.4.9 i checked.
just to let you know, the same thing happened with me on the live system.
We are running Debian with PHP 5.3.3-7+squeeze14.
I was able to find out that this is not so much DTRegister but PHP itself. Meaning a particular library is missing in this version of PHP. I did not bother installing it, as it was not so simple at all... Can't recall the library anymore... But I recall there being a ticket in the Debian Bugtracker...
So right now, I can not show images either in the eventlist. Maybe Nathan has a workaround...

So I'm not the only one who has problems with php 5.4?

A workaround by Nathan would be heartily appreciated, since the only solution i found would be to upgrade my webhosting package and
change to a Virtual Managed or Managed Server. There I could control the php-version which is running by myself but I would also have to pay more money for it.
For now my suggestion is to go back to the prior version. We haven't tested with that version of PHP yet. Also you may need to be prepared to move to Joomla 3.0 in order for everything to work together. It will be early January before we can set up tests for compatibility with 5.4 but I expect that others will run into this issue so we will do some testing on our end.
Running into the same problem I found out, that with png files the upload and display does work!
This may help wokring on the issue. The PHP version used by 1&1 is currently 5.4.12.
Joomla 3.0 is not really an option yet. Migration from Joomla 1.5 to 3.0 broke with DTReg, where migration to Joomla 2.5 was doing fine.
If there are some news or workaround for this, I'd really appreaciate such!
